EVENTS: When we met (and dressed up for) Walter

I know I'm pretty late on this post...but better be late than never right?! On that topic, a few weeks ago the RMIT Fashion cohort were pretty lucky to have a special VIP preview of Walter Van Beirendonck's exhibition, Dream The World Awake at the RMIT Design Hub aka. circle/drum building (whatever you want to call it!). With his crazy love affair of all things dreaming, we dreamt a little too with our dressing. Here are some pictures I took of my lovely (and crazy cool cat colourful) classmates. I think it's also safe to say we "dreamt" of meeting Walter too...or was that real-life?

P.S. Had small talk with the designer himself! Sorry if it was awkward...

FASHION-SPIRATION: Fashion At Work with Amy Levin

There are a few idols in my life that I, with wide-eyes, look up to. Whether it may be their life story or their career at best, I am forever inspired. Take for example Amy Levin (who is also my editor at CF!). I probably don't need to explain much in caption...the video says it all!

ADD TO MY TOTE: Backpackin'

So long the haul! I've been off this blog since I have been running the RMIT Tumblr the past week and getting back in the swing of things for uni. But don't fear: LFF is back! - M.xx

Been searching for the ultimate backpack for a while now, since my Topshop one is basically worn out. I need one to carry all my uni essentials: massive rulers, library books, fabrics, my lunchbox...everything! But since my disposable income is limited, I may just leave the backpack shopping haul on hold. Which of the backpacks do you like though? Crazy colourful left? Or luscious leather right?

Who says I can't online "window" shop though...

BEHIND THE SEAMS: Beatrice's Weekend Pt. 3/ Shift(ing)

Panel Assessment time! The time when we present our work to a group of teachers - as if we're selling our collection to a whole room of buyers! Not going to lie, it can be so nerve racking. The aftermath is so worth it though. It is typical of us to upload our photo shoot images and videos everywhere! Here is Beatrice's final work. Simple and sweet.

Why did you choose this studio?

"I actually chose film but I decided to switch to Adaptation because I thought it was relevant to the issues approaching sustainability. And the idea of adapting. I also thought it would be a very useful in terms if skills. And also very challenging. Ultimately I decided to push myself since its 3rd year!"

BEHIND THE SEAMS: Beatrice's Weekend Part Two

ADAPTATION.
A 3rd Year Studio.
Semester 1, 2013.

"This studio engages with the role of designer as a catalyst for change. The issue of sustainability will be explored beyond material choices and production methods, focusing instead of finding alternatives to the industry model of rampant construction."

So now you know what the Adaptation studio is about, here are more of Beatrice's photo snaps before the crazy mayhem we call end-of-semester. Photo shoots, film making, perfecting make up, cutting patterns, final folio sketches...sometimes (well typically) all of this happens in...a...week! Sleepless nights and ridiculous amounts of coffee? The usual.

BEHIND THE SEAMS: Beatrice's Weekend

This weekend's post is dedicated to my friend Beatrice. She is quite the instagrammer and foodie lover too (so nice to meet someone who likes the same things!). Bea is in 3rd year who took the Adaptation studio. And what is ADAPTATION exactly? Keep checking this weekend and you'll see! Here are just some of her Behind The Seams snapshots. I'm loving her edit for the last photo...sums up pattern making to perfection! -M.
