FASHION-SPIRATION: Fashion At Work with Amy Levin

There are a few idols in my life that I, with wide-eyes, look up to. Whether it may be their life story or their career at best, I am forever inspired. Take for example Amy Levin (who is also my editor at CF!). I probably don't need to explain much in caption...the video says it all!

ADD TO MY TOTE: Backpackin'

So long the haul! I've been off this blog since I have been running the RMIT Tumblr the past week and getting back in the swing of things for uni. But don't fear: LFF is back! - M.xx

Been searching for the ultimate backpack for a while now, since my Topshop one is basically worn out. I need one to carry all my uni essentials: massive rulers, library books, fabrics, my lunchbox...everything! But since my disposable income is limited, I may just leave the backpack shopping haul on hold. Which of the backpacks do you like though? Crazy colourful left? Or luscious leather right?

Who says I can't online "window" shop though...

BEHIND THE SEAMS: Beatrice's Weekend Pt. 3/ Shift(ing)

Panel Assessment time! The time when we present our work to a group of teachers - as if we're selling our collection to a whole room of buyers! Not going to lie, it can be so nerve racking. The aftermath is so worth it though. It is typical of us to upload our photo shoot images and videos everywhere! Here is Beatrice's final work. Simple and sweet.

Why did you choose this studio?

"I actually chose film but I decided to switch to Adaptation because I thought it was relevant to the issues approaching sustainability. And the idea of adapting. I also thought it would be a very useful in terms if skills. And also very challenging. Ultimately I decided to push myself since its 3rd year!"

BEHIND THE SEAMS: Beatrice's Weekend Part Two

ADAPTATION.
A 3rd Year Studio.
Semester 1, 2013.

"This studio engages with the role of designer as a catalyst for change. The issue of sustainability will be explored beyond material choices and production methods, focusing instead of finding alternatives to the industry model of rampant construction."

So now you know what the Adaptation studio is about, here are more of Beatrice's photo snaps before the crazy mayhem we call end-of-semester. Photo shoots, film making, perfecting make up, cutting patterns, final folio sketches...sometimes (well typically) all of this happens in...a...week! Sleepless nights and ridiculous amounts of coffee? The usual.

BEHIND THE SEAMS: Beatrice's Weekend

This weekend's post is dedicated to my friend Beatrice. She is quite the instagrammer and foodie lover too (so nice to meet someone who likes the same things!). Bea is in 3rd year who took the Adaptation studio. And what is ADAPTATION exactly? Keep checking this weekend and you'll see! Here are just some of her Behind The Seams snapshots. I'm loving her edit for the last photo...sums up pattern making to perfection! -M.

BEHIND THE SEAMS: Trippy Apron

So you ask, why couldn't she be more creative with her title? Yeah, I ask the same thing! But moving on from that, as you see in this post, I created a somewhat "apron" (the black piece pinned on the polka dot shirt) in my developmental work. Majority of people saw it as an apron, so I started calling it that as well. You see though, the straps are actually collar pieces, just re-organised. Trippy hey?!

On a serious note, how amazing are these photo shoot images? These were taken by friend Cameron who is studying Photography, at RMIT as well. The location was amazing (and trippy) too. Couldn't get enough of the wooden poles and the repetition of the industrial lines. Lets just say everything was trippppppy! -M.

STYLE STALK: Street Snaps x CollegeFashionista

If you know me well, you will know I am a bit of a intern queen. I have at least 6-7 work experience and internship titles under my belt! I'm currently interning at CollegeFashionista, a fashion blogging website, where I take street-style snaps around campus and write articles on trends I find. Here are just some of my favourite snaps, that may also inspire your wardrobe.

PLAYLIST: Melissa Him's

Okay, so the first few posts just seems so narcissistic because it is all based on me! These are start up posts so I can get the blog rolling! But back to the topic...

When we really want to get some work done, it is typical of us to put on our headphones and be sucked into fashion-concentration (while also listening to our favourite inspirational tunes). What are we exactly listening to though? What is on repeat on our playlist? Here is a grasp of mine.

What is one song from your playlist that you would base a collection on?

"Tightrope by Janelle Monáe feat. Big Boi. It is such a fun, catchy tune. I can see a really colourful and playful collection with a mixture of sportswear and tailored garments!" -M.

BEHIND THE SEAMS: All Serious Business

No more boring, basic skills from 1st year! 2nd year allowed a more personal approach to our studies. For one, balloting for our fashion design studios (our major) was a nerve racking experience because we all wanted our first choice! Luckily for me, I got mine: Dream Boy Dream Girl Dream Boy - A Menswear Studio.

Why did you choose this studio?

"I love how menswear has the attention-to-detail aesthetic, which is basically how I design! I have always thought about doing menswear but never really had the opportunity to do it. So, when I found out this studio was offered, I immediately put it as my first preference. Also the kooky name makes it more intriguing.  Dreaming while designing? I'm sold!" - M.

FASHION-SPIRATION: Alexander Wang x Bon Qui Qui

Who thought fashion was all serious-business? NAH UH! Get rid of the avant-garde and replace it with some comedy! Learn a lesson or two from the Alexander Wang x Bon Qui Qui (a.k.a. Anjelah Johnson) collaboration. HILARIOUS!

P.S. Does anyone feel like this in retail? Comment!

ADD TO MY TOTE: Neon Gumbo

Okay, forget my lame post title. I'm really just talking about neon accents here. I'm already bored of the sad, colour-less, winter tones. So, that's why I'm looking into anything colourful to brighten up my outfit. Let's bring back the neon brights! And more happy days!

STYLE STALK: Melissa Him

Vintage Pink Shirt, Ben Sherman Skirt, Vintage Necklace, Sportsgirl Bag, Wittner Boots

Interning at College Fashionista, my friend (and fellow intern) Jess & I, made up this thing called "Style Stalk", where we pretty much stalk trendy people to street-style snap! So, one thing you will get out of following this blog, is the regular OOTD's, from fashion students to the random people we meet on the street. To start off with, here is moi:

A pink worshiper to a fancy floral addict, I am the epitome of a girly-girl. But don't get me wrong. I love my lace up boots, to you know, just edge things up.

3 staple garments in Mel's wardrobe:

1. Something Patterned 2. Black Boots 3. Studded Denim Vest
